From COVID to HMPV: China is Under Threats of Another Virus.

The Rise of HMPV virus in China:

Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is rapidly emerging in China. The symptoms are common to the respiratory virus that causes an upper respiratory infection ( like a cold). It is a seasonal disease that usually occurs in the winter and early spring. The symptoms generally lasted concerning the severity of the virus.

Recent reports indicate a surge in respiratory infections in China, primarily due to the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV). While concerning, it is important to note that HMPV is not a new virus and typically causes mild, cold-like symptoms. However, it can lead to severe illness in young children and the elderly.

The Human Toll-Illnesses and Overcrowded Hospitals:

The current situation in China highlights the challenges posed by respiratory viruses, especially during the winter months. It also realized the importance of vaccination, preventive measures like hand hygiene, and staying informed about health advisories.

Despite the lack of official precautions and measures, social media is brimmed with various videos and posts of spreading of viruses and infection of people recorded in posts. To date, 7834 illnesses have been reported, and 170 casualties recorded. Many are claiming its hospitals are overcrowded with infected individuals and it generally affects the upper respiratory part of the human.

Understanding HMPV-Symptoms and Transmissions:

Symptoms of the human metapneumovirus HMPV are similar to those of flu or common cold. It can spread from an infected individual to others through coughing, sneezing or personal contact. Some common symptoms include:

Cough
Fever
Nasal congestion
Sore throat
Shortness of breath

The estimated incubation period is three to six days and the duration depends on the severity of the infection. It changes with the immune system of the infected patient. Most people who reported are elders and children, they are severely affected by the plague of viruses.

The origin of the virus remains unknown and reports suggest it has symptoms which are similar to the respiratory disease. As a result, hospitals are becoming overwhelming and overcrowded with patients.

Remember, this virus is not new, despite its presence being known for decades there are no proper medications and vaccines for the virus. They rapidly emerged in the winter season because of extreme cold, and cases are predominantly reported in the Eastern side of the Chinese region.

Taking necessary Preventions:

WHO urges China to share authentic data and numbers with the world. Because precautionary measures would be taken with the severity of viruses. WHO also criticized China’s tight control of data access and credibility. Remember, the Chinese government has already implemented a health emergency because of the rise in the number of patients.

It would be necessary to take strong measures to counter the deadly disease as quick as possible. The HMPV outbreak in China shows how quickly viruses can spread. It is a reminder that we need to be prepared for these kinds of unexpected situations. People must be cautioned about health warnings. Alongside we need to work together to stop diseases from spreading, which includes things like getting vaccinated, keeping hydrated and washing our hands often.
