The Greenland Gamble: Who Will Occupy The Arctic Giant?

Since Trump has come into power the bolstering comments to make America great have become prevalent. Vainglorious and swaggering remarks are becoming common not from officials but from the head of the state. Things are getting hotter and simmering at the point that occupation of nations are openly getting discussed in the public domain as we are approaching to end the year.

Lately, Trump shown interest in occupying world largest island the Greenland it is not something new he has also tweeted in 2019 to occupy Greenland. For Trump it is utter necessary to occupy this region as quick as possible to avoid security risk.

Remember Greenland is an autonomous state of Denmak. It is situated at the northern areas in the heart of Arctic ocean because of the melting of solid-ice things are getting interesting and suspenseful for many belligerent nations keeping eyes on the sovereignty of the nation who never bothers any of the nations of the world.

Trump said ” it is necessary to occupy Greenland as quick as possible” comments came in the backdrop of the melting of the ice, and the growing influence of Russia in the future prospect of Greenland. The Greenland president responded ” We are a proud nation and we are not for sale and will not be for sale” further expressing that we have long struggles of perseverance and sacrifices we believe in our sovereignty we are not for sale.

There are possible reasons Trump is inclining towards possession of peaceful and world’s largest Island. One is melting of ice, will create access of Russia and China to Greenland. And the USA is seeing it as a potential risk and dangerous for future prospects of the world. Easy access of these two nations to Arctic will cause the rise of expansionism and it is dangerous for the world according to American sources. Secondly, Greenland is heavily dependent on USA goods and exports because of this Trump eagerly wants to annex Greenland.

Earlier, Trump also showed keen interest in annexing the Panama Canal because of increasing security risk and posing threats. Although Panama Canal is a part of Panama and USA have signed the treaty breaching the treaty he unveiled interest in occupying it. Even, Trump expressed strong interest to see Canada as the 51st state of the USA and Trudeau as his governor when he approached Trump for a meeting to reduce tariffs on Canadian goods.

Lastly, Trump’s interest in Greenland showing the growing geopolitical importance of the Arctic, driven by security concerns and economic dependencies. However, Greenland’s firm stance on sovereignty reflects the broader struggle between national interests and global power dynamics, with the island trapped in a complex web of shadows of world powers.
